OUR HISTORY
Intertrans was established in Istanbul in the year 1962 to provide
agency services to the foreign flagged vessels passing through Turkish
straits as well as to attend vessels operating at Istanbul port.
Within those years, among the few shipping companies in Turkey,
rapitedly became one of leading shipping agency and the demanding
brand name by ship owners and shipping operators trading in the
international field.
During our agency life, we have serviced many shipping operators like
American Sealift Command and Greek, German, Spanish and Japanese
owners, liner services, from a ship owner of single vessel to
Norwegian Tanker Fleet. We have given Suez Canal agency services to
Turkish ships.
Owing to restrictions on Turkish Money/Foreign currencies, until the
first decade of 1980’s, state monopoly organizations and private
sector companies were somehow obliged to import their goods on CIF
conditions and they were exporting cargoes on FOB basis. Dictated
freight rates from abroad was causing extra losses to the traders. |

Transportation of cargoes under the responsibility of local
charterers, especially loading commodities to foreign flagged vessels,
were almost impossible due to the fact that freight was being paid by
the Turkish charterers. Charter-parties of import and export
commodities, were acceptable, if freight was paid by charterers out of
Turkey
Intertrans established “Chartering and Brokerage Services” to
interfere such kind complications. Within this period, we signed close
contacts with almost every Turkish trader. Sea transportation service
were given to principals either on contract of agreement or on spot
shipments. We are thankful for the support of our ship owner and
manager friends. After those years, in Turkey ship brokerage and ship
chartering companies came to the stage and started practicing their
transactions.

Intertrans, with its good relationships and trustable experience, became a
leading company of ship chartering and brokerage in Turkey. Especially, it
provided CIF letter of credit opportunities in the export of agricultural
products. It had an important role in the withdraw of the freight rate to
the world standard level.
Turkish Fleet rapitedly enlarged at the beginning of 80’s with new
buildings. With this enlargement, we obtained fixing opportunities of
Turkish vessels to foreign charterers.
While providing a professional service to our principals, every single staff were well-trained in our offices. Today, our qualified ex-personnel are working in various offices. We are very proud of our collegues, who were once with us, are now active in international shipping market at various positions, even becoming the manager or owner of the successfull firms.
